Power Dns Server As A Domain Name Registry

Hello, I hope this is the right forum section about my subject, if not, i'm requesting from moderators to move this topic to the right section. I'm studying on a start-up project about creating an alternative root server for alternative tlds. I installed Power Dns with mysql backend and it's working without a problem. What do i want to do is; Creating a child nameserver on Power Dns like ICANN accredited domain name registrars offer to the customers who use this nameserver on different server. So, Power Dns won't give detailed managed dns functionality, it'll just store the domain name data and nameserver record, so control of it will be done by other dns server.(And later, it'll be able to change this nameserver record again with mysql query.) I created the domain name entry in domains table and put the zone records on records table as soa and nameserver definition pointing to other server but it's not working what i wish. Let's say the tld is "etc"; etc IN NS ns1.etc ns1.etc IN A 1.1.1.1 And, i setup a master zone in 1.1.1.1 ip based server and fill the other records there. I'm not sure if i could tell my issue clearly, but i wish someone understood me. Thanks. Good works. Last edited by outher; 07-12-2013 at 05:59 AM.

I believe you are trying to setup a secondary dns server . This should help , even though the installation is specific to debian OS. http://www.debiantutorials.com/insta...r-with-slaves/

Hello, Thanks for the information but this is not what i'm looking for. I don't want to setup a slave server, because if master server isn't updated, slave won't act as itself. Thanks. Good works.

How do you define "not working"? Have you set up a modified resolver to use your alternative root server?

I have defined alternative authoritavite name server in pdns server's resolv.conf file. Also, put the domain name and ip address records in the config file of pdns-recursor. Both didn't work as i remember.
