Legal Threats

Posted by innerspace70, 12-02-2007, 08:03 AM
Im an experianced server/network guy but new to hosting. I have a new issue where a person is making viscious threats to a customer of mine on the content of his forum. He posted an email that someone sent him on his board. They are fighting like girls.. He is threatining to "bring his site down" leagely and physically. Is there a anything he can do legaly? Its just an email.. Nothing slanderous. Can he come after my account and have it shut down? Do other people have similar issues like this? <<< Signatures need to be set up in your profile. >>> Last edited by SoftWareRevue; 12-02-2007 at 09:26 AM.

Is it copyrighted content?

What is it about? Some thing against him?

It's really not too good to get involved with disputes like this. If it has nothing to do with you, then don't get involved. However you should be concerned over your server. Which is why it is important that you say what the content is and what the dispute is about.. Without that information, it's really hard to provide any advice.

I would remove the content and leave it at that. Then he doesn't have a leg to stand on.

I have to agree with the others on this one. If the site in question does not break any laws of any kind then it should only stay between the two people. Getting involved will only cause bad feelings for you when there was no need in you getting involved. However if the site in questions did break laws...... then that is a horse of a different color.

You should be fine, if it breaks the law as others mentioned then take it down as that will be a liablity for you. However with no knowledge of what the content was in the first place it is hard for everyone to give the best advice.

I do want to stay out of it but he was a friend of my fathers and I installed the forum for him. He is learning and comes to me for advice. What he posted was just a conversation between the 2 of them with no disclamer on privacy. He posted it in the moderators room so they could see what the guy was trying to do. I think the guy is pissed because he took his domain and left. He was paying 140mo for a shared hosting plan. (cash cow) I guess my real question is.. How do I tell if its illegal or not? I dont see what grounds he has or who he could file a grievance with. I installed Google analytics to keep an eye on the IP's coming and going.

I tell people to take their complaints to law enforcement.
