Port 25 "blocked" on a plesk server.

I am helping a client on a Plesk server running, I believe on Centos. I've been doing some other work for them, but they asked me today to assist with some email trouble that started about 5 days ago, where if any email gets delivered, it's after delays of 12 hours or more, and most of it comes back as undeliverable. from /usr/local/psa/var/log/maillog I am getting a lot of: delivery 5718: deferral: ./Maildir:_No_such_file_or_directory/ So I used telnet to connect to one of my own (cpanel) servers, and it connects just fine on port 80, but if I try port 25 I get: telnet xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx 25 Trying xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx ... telnet: connect to address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx: No route to host telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: No route to host Port 25 does not appear to be blocked due to any spam listings, I've checked several of the main spam listings, and it does not appear to be listed anywhere. The plesk firewall module is not installed on this server. I am unsure how to tell if the port is somehow blocked at this computer, or by the nearest router. I am looking for ideas on what to check next. Thank you!

Please also check in default iptables firewall of server and make sure that it is not blocked there.

After stopping iptables, I am still unable to telnet to port 25 of one of my own boxes. /etc/init.d/iptables stop

Try to run telnet from the same plesk server SSH and see if it works: telnet xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx 25 May be it is a used IP address and dara center has blocked this port from their router.

lsof -i tcp:25 Check to make sure qmail / postfix is bound to port 25.

I can telnet to the servers own IP, and to localhost via port 25. When I disconnect it does state it was connected to ESMTP # telnet localhost 25 Trying 127.0.0.1... Connected to localhost.secureserver.net (127.0.0.1). Escape character is '^]'. 220 ip-xx.xxx.xx.xx.ip.secureserver.net ESMTP I would not think that would be it, because we are trying to connect outbound currently, but running lsof, there are no IPv4 bindings (or whatever you would call these) # /usr/sbin/lsof -i tcp:25 COMMAND PID USER FD TYPE DEVICE SIZE NODE NAME xinetd 2234 root 8u IPv6 5812 TCP *mtp (LISTEN)

It looks like you are using a Go Daddy hosted server. Go Daddy blocks connections out on port 25 except to our relay servers. You will need to ensure you have the relay server set properly. You can check the process here. If you would like me to look into this for you just send me a PM with your ticket number.

Mike! yes you are correct, this is a GoDaddy server. This is VERY helpful... The IP listed in smtproutes is: :208.109.80.210 I cannot tell what IP is listed in the GoDaddy control panel, there are multiple layers of non-techies between myself, and whomever has that information. I can get in as root, but not into the goDaddy control panel. Normally I would not give out an IP address in an open forum, but I guess in this case it can do more good than it can harm. If there is ANY way you can assist me, the server's IP is 72.167.37.225 The emails stopped going out about Tuesday or Wednesday of last week. Is there a new IP I can configure in it's place?

I sent you a PM with what you need to do to fix this.

Thank you. That IP address seems to be taking care of that problem. While I have your attention, I have something else that has started to happen on the same box, that may or may not be related. Any time my client forwards or replies to an email, the email gets rejected by the servers anti-virus package. Dear User, A message with the following attributes was not delivered because it contains an object which cannot be checked by antivirus. Relaying such messages is blocked by administrator. Antivirus filter report: --- Antivirus report --- Detailed report: 127.0.0.1 [13799] drweb.tmp.JM8kXf - archive MAIL 127.0.0.1 [13799] drweb.tmp.JM8kXf/[text:plain] - archive MAIL 127.0.0.1 [13799] >drweb.tmp.JM8kXf/[text:plain]/1.part - Ok 127.0.0.1 [13799] >drweb.tmp.JM8kXf/[text:plain]/ - read error! --- Antivirus report ---

Have you tried disabling or changing any of the Dr Web settings in Plesk?

Posted by Nechochwen, 09-28-2012, 04:44 AM
Got that solved too... First I updated Plesk to the latest... Then saw that drweb was still the December 15th version that was listed in your knowledgebase to have this problem, so I downgraded it to the December 11th version. Is there a more up to date version I should be using?

I checked with our server team and you should be fine with that version.
