Atomicorp or Config Server?

Posted by nootkan, 04-10-2012, 06:19 PM
First I apologise if this is posted somewhere but I've been searching and reading for hours and cannot find anything other than mod security related threads. I have just upgraded to a newer dedicated server from Server Beach and in the past I have used Config Sever to provide security. Unfortunately they are over loaded with work and cannot install the package I usually get for my server. I only have a few clients and don't feel comfortable installing myself, so I decided to look around and found Atomicorp. My question to those of you who have more experience in server management is who do you think is better, Atomicorp or Config Server? One thing I love about config server is their mailscanner/mailwatch script and I'm confused as to whether Atomicorp has something similar when browsing their site. (might be a deal breaker) Sorry for the long winded post.

The config server scripts are very quick and easy to install, might be an idea to get someone to install them for you if you'd like to stick with what you know.

Thanks for your reply, that is what I tried to do originally but Way to Web (config server) are too busy to install them so I decided to look around and found Atomicorp but just wanted some opinions on pros and cons between the two.

You could post in the requests section here at WHT and see if someone on the forum would be able to help you out as a one-time task. Link

Again thanks, but I'm not concerned about getting it installed at present just wanted some info on the differences between the two and what you may or may not like about them so I can decide which one I may go with. Or maybe you prefer another that I missed.

configserver usually install as a paid service, and they do hardening as well; if you're looking to get your server secure, I've been using them for years and can recommend them highly. ASL are a generic product and it'll take some work to get it to work well; the configserver scripts are generic but started out on cpanel, so run well on cpanel servers.

Thanks for the reply. I have also used Config Server for a few years and liked it also. The support isn't all that great however which is why I was looking at Atomicorp when I couldn't get a hold of configserver to install their package again on my server. Atomicorp charges $200/yr and provides good support based from my research on their forum. Was just hoping someone here may have been familar with Atomicorp and could pass along some info good or bad.

Seeing how no one here obviously uses atomicorp (or at least unwilling to provide experience with) and I don't trust what I don't know I went with configserver.
