Posted by NelaHosting, 02-12-2012, 01:02 PM
I think i have successfully installed a SSL certificate for the hostname on my server to use cPanel/WHM. How ever my question is i want to use SSL for WHMCS which is located on the server as http://nelahosting.com/clients if i go to https://nelahosting.com/clients its not working. My question is do i need a separate SSL certificate for the domain itself? the certificate purchased for cPanel/WHM was purchase for the hostname ouachita.nelahosting.com Thanks

You either need to get a wildcard or another SSL.

1 SSL PER domain unless you get a wildcard SSL. this.domain.com - #1 SSL thisone.domain.com - #2 SSL thisonetoo.domain.com - #3 SSL etc.

So if I purchase one for whmcs it should point to domain.com/whmcs or just domain.com?

You will just need to set it up with the domain 'domain.com'. Then any folder under this will work with https like domain.com/whmcs domain.com/anotherfolder ...etc

If you get a cert for www.domain.com most providers will include domain.com as well. Worth asking as not all do this.

I do believe (though please confirm) that the GeoTrust QuickSSL Premium lets you secure 1 domain + 3 subdomains like domain.com shop.domain.com secure.domain.com www.domain.com This might be an option if Wildcard SSL are beyond your budget for what you need.

You are incorrect, ONLY wildcard SSLs will cover more than one domain. When it comes to an SSL, a subdomain for all intensive purposes is considered a whole new domain name.

I am just going by a number of websites that say this, for example http://www.clickssl.com/ssl-certific...ickssl-premium

Indeed, that is interesting. I have never seen them advertise that anywhere else, even on their own site, odd.

Getting an SSL certificate for www.domain.com will also cover domain.com (without www).
