On a shared hosting with no ssh Can I use cron to backup my whole site?

Greetings, What control panel is it? You should be able to schedule a cronjob to run a PHP FTP backup script every 24 hours or so. http://forums.cpanel.net/f49/automat...hp-111213.html Good luck.

You can generate a script which compresses the website files and dumps of the dbs. Then you need to configure cronjob to execute it at the desired time. However, it is always better to contact the host before setting up such a resource consuming application, to get a time frame for the cron without affecting the server performance.
