Which Linux Host? 200+ TLD's - 5+Gb Space - 20+Gb Bandwidth
Posted by JasMate, 08-06-2006, 04:58 PM |
Things I need:
At least 5Gb Space & 100Gb Bandwidth
At least 200 domains
Unlimited Emails
CGI-BIN
Perl
PHP 4 & 5
Python
Server Side Includes
Unlimited MSQL
Cron Jobs
Cpanel
I prefer "Overselling Enabled" but that is not absolutely necessary
I am not very technically minded so I need a USER FRIENDLY HOST!! I have been with dathorn in the past and it was a nightmare for me.
Also what do some companies (webhostingbuzz for one) mean by " Bandwidth" & "Data Transfer"? I thought bandwidth and data trasfer were the same thing?

you looking for a reseller or a shared plan? the plan you pointed out by webhostingbuzz is a shared if i'm not mistaken, but you're in the reseller forum.

Yeah sorry I AM AFTER RESELLING and come to think of it I will need about 100Gb of bandwidth. Sorry I didn't see that on the hostingbuzz site, so yeah I guess I will need to spend about $10??? per month? I was looking for the best priced solution also, thanks.

do you actually have 200 accounts or are most of them addon/parked domains? you'll probably need overselling enabled unless your accounts are each like 50mb

Simply put I am not technically minded. And It was my first "reseller account" experience. I asked many questions and got few answers. I had my account for about 4 months and didn't even use it because I didn't know how to set it up and no one helped me. TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY.

No I don't have anywhere near that many at the moment but I will have in the future so I need room to grow.

You may want to increase your budget.. $10 is a very low price to pay for such a large account. Although you will be saving money, you'll need to consider the non-financial price that you may end up paying..
e.g.
- bad support
- high downtime
- overloaded server (slow execution of scripts and general loading of pages)
As well as other things...

Does webhostingbuzz have those qualities?

one way to find out, sign up for a trial period and guage them out

Unfortunately, I am in no position to judge as I haven't had any experience with them before..
However a quick search brought up a good deal of results. Here are some randomly picked threads which may be relevant to you:

hmmm.;. hosts set an account for you, so it works out of the box ( uness something gets broken ), if you dont know how to transfer files via ftp etc. i doubt any host will help you. you should try to obtain free hosting to test how creating webpages works, than use commercial services, unless you dont know what you're doing im not quite sure if you really need them. my sugesstion is try something free, then if you think you really need it pay for it.

I have had non-reseller hosting accounts for about 6 years now. Trust me my problem was not how to use ftp or setup a webpage. No my problem was how to operate and manage the reseller side of things. I will not go into detail but let me just say I asked questions and got no real help. Which is not what I call customer service. Unfortunately with a lot of companies the customer service seems to end once your signed up which in my opinion is bad policy.

Good deal thanks! I won't be using webhostingbuzz that's for sure!

Always a good idea to check out the top reseller hosts at HostSearch. You'll see what rates you can expect to pay for quality service.

It's nice of our competitors to highligh negative threads about us. We have over 10,000 clients so inevitably you will get a few who are unhappy for particular reasons. The unhappy clients always shout louder than the happy clients.
There's plenty of positive ones too - http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showth...webhostingbuzz
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showth...webhostingbuzz
HostSearch and many other of the big hosting directories list their advertisers that spend more as 'better' hosts. Not very ethical.
I wish you the best of luck in searching for your reseller host. Normally I'd let threads like this pass by but seeing competitors try and tarnish their name and get their own signature in this thread troubles me, to say the least.

Did you read the part that I said they were picked at random?
|
Posted by mdrussell, 08-07-2006, 08:37 AM |
Strange that the random ones were the few negatives ones I could find. However, my point about signatures remains.
|
Posted by rv_irl, 08-07-2006, 08:47 AM |
I don't see it as strange. Maybe you just have more negatives?
The potential customer has every right to know about the points I made. I don't see why the negative posts should be censored out in anyway. Afterall, this is a public forum last time I checked?
If I wanted to just show my signature around, then I would make a bunch of pointless points, which clearly is something I haven't done.
The op asked, and he received...

Well to avoid treading on toes, next time you respond in a thread asking about untick the display signature option in the post. Because it certainly come across that you are going for some quick free advertising by responding in this way.
And please note, I do not disagree with any potential customer doing their research and I never stated this. But you must agree, when a competitor pops up in a thread linking in some negative reviews of the host in question, it does raise some questions.
