I need a reseller account with A+ Support

Posted by myrdog, 06-17-2006, 10:03 AM
I know I have been asking about reseller plans alot lately, but I have upped my budget. I decided that I need a host that I can call and get a hold of WHENEVER, I can't have 9-5 support or a within 24 hour ticket system. I need to be able to get a problem solved when it is convenient for me, not for my host. Therefore, it is an open call for reseller hosts. Hoping to keep below $30/month but if you have a good suggestion above, don't hesitate. Right now hostgator looks really nice.

A lot of hosts don't offer 24/7 phone support because for the most part it isn't the most effective way to fix a problem. It is much more difficult to explain over the phone proper procedures or what links to go to, as opposed to just typing them on the computer and following the actual link, etc. I think you'll find any host that offers 24/7 phone support will be fairly expensive as you need a lot more staff to be able to cover phone and tickets.

I know, but it seems that the major guys like hostgator, sonet7, and jaguarpc all offer phone support. Their costs aren't rediculous either and hostgator just left me with a really good impression after contacting them a few minutes ago.

If phone support is of major importance I'd give them a call, see how long it takes to get through, and how knowledgable they are...

I agree with Lubby. I don't see phone support as crucially important. Very serious issues (server or network ralated) can't really be solved over the phone anyway. You can get a response quickly and know what happened, but that's basically it. Hmmm... Maybe as a reseller knowing what to tell your customers is reason enough though.

i think most hosts would prefer contact to be sent through ticket system / live support and urgent queries on the phone, unless its just me who prefers that. But be sure to check the host actually does supply 24x7 technical support and does not just say they do.

Ok. So does anyone have any suggestions? I guess the phone support isn't a huge deal, but I like the live chat at least. 24/7 tickets are a must though, with answers within 30 mins min, no within 1 day BS. EDIT: I would LOVE End-user support too Last edited by myrdog; 06-17-2006 at 11:15 AM.

for end-user support, if I am correctly, Jodohost offers it.

Posted by myrdog, 06-17-2006, 11:55 AM
Jodohost may, but that's because they limit their accounts quite a bit. $20 for only 7 accounts is very pricey IMO.

If you want phone support, I would say HostGator is the best option for you. What are your other requirements, control panel, disk space and bandwidth?

Check out Dotable for high quality service with excellent support. Another company that offers end user support is Cartika Hosting. Good luck :-)

I have used HG's phone support in past, though the response is quick, but they are not effective in solving your issue. At the end most effective mode is ticket based system.

Have you tested Sonet7 so far? They are owned by Liquidweb and should be a good bet considering your requirements. Off your list, jaguarpc also is a reputed name you can go with.

If you decide to go with HG, do not use chat and expect to have your issues resolved. They don't necessarily publish this, but after almost two years with them you see in the forums and come to realize if you use it that it's only intended for quick questions like pointing you to a certain page or knowledgebase article, things like that. If you have a genuine support issue and need to get something done, email support @ hostgator.com is the best way and if that doesn't work call the toll free number. The only times I've called is when I've noticed the server was down and there wasn't anything about it reported yet in the forums. Their support is very quick to respond (usually within 30 minutes) but that doesn't = resolution. One of the problems I have seen is that if you don't get it resolved on the first exchange, you end up going through multiple people who may not be as familar with the issue as the first person which can get frustrating. I would say the support is overall a good value for what you are paying, but they aren't really the type to give detailed communications/replies to support issues, they more concentrate on getting it fixed and just telling you when it's done. Some people don't like that, others don't care and rather have the problem resolved vs. knowing exactly what was going on. David

places like jodo, cartika that do offer end user support may seem expensive but if they meet your strict needs....are they really?

Posted by CyberHostPro, 06-17-2006, 06:10 PM
reading this post the user is not asking for end user support but fast support for himself if i am correct

Posted by myrdog, 06-17-2006, 06:22 PM
Yes and no. I want good support, but I also would like to be able to pay or upgrade to end-user support later.

When it comes to A+ support I would recommend Idologic.com I also have a resellers account with WebKore.net which offers "free end user support". One day I was curious if they really do offer free end user support? So I had a friend change their DNS name servers to mine, I created a new account in WHM and 20 minutes later the domain propagated. They purchased FlashChat for $5 and sent an e-mail to WebKore.net's support providing the domain's cPanel username/password and asking them to install it. 24 minutes later they received an e-mail reply that the script has been successfully installed. We tested it out and the script worked. I wish I had more time to test their support more extensively but I already have enough hobbies as is When I signed up for WebKore.net a few months ago they were offering a free domain after 30 days. So I registered PimpifyHosting.com. I probably should submit a support ticket to have the domain transferred to me, again I just haven't had the time to do so. Ack I just checked and it's been almost 6 months, wow how time flies.

Guys- I'm new to resellers hosting so you'll pardon the newbie question, but what is 'end-user support' ? thanks.

Posted by myrdog, 06-18-2006, 08:28 PM
end-user is support for the people who are being hosted on the reseller account

Posted by myrdog, 06-19-2006, 11:02 AM
I have checked out the 3 mentioned resellers (jodohost, cartikahosting, and webkore). I am only considering 1 at this time though - webkore, because the other 2 use H-Sphere, and I am trying to move away from H-Sphere. Any cPanel suggestions?

Posted by IHSL, 06-19-2006, 12:02 PM
In this context an end user is the resellers customer; Reseller hosting provider --Reseller ----End user When a company offers end user support with their services they are giving you the option of supporting your clients as well. This gives the reseller a bit more room to breath as they build their business. End user support is ideal for start-up companies who wish to concentrate on the sales side of things until the time comes when they can hire their own staff to take care of the technical aspect of things. End user support often has many more benefits than just the option of answering support emails. What these options turn out to be depends entirely on your choice of provider. Simon

This definitely sounds like something that i might be interested in exploring. Any possible recommendations? I prefer cPanel with Fantastico, php, mySQL, and all that good stuff.

That's what I am looking for Alex. Look back in the thread to see 3 recomendations...None of them really suit my needs though.

I'm currently with HostGator and I would recommend them. I came from some pretty shady companies so maybe I was easily impressed but being able to reach someone via telephine is an extra reassurance that keeps me comfortable. The first day or two after I moved my site it went down which had me panicked but I was able to reach someone via chat and they had the server back up in less than 3 minutes. Since then I have not had a single problem that was on their end and they have been more than happy to help me out to solve configuration problems or make server sided changes to accomodate me. Give them a try.

Another Vote here for HostGator great and fast support

It seems that the people talking down 24x7 phone support are hosts themselves and because they can't afford to or don't want to offer it, they just trying to tell you how it's not important. Online chat support and phone support may not be the best ways of getting an issue resolved. But whether or not it's the best, it's just another way of reaching your host. And THAT is what is important. If a company can afford to hire and staff that many people for just phones, for just chat, for just tickets, then that tells you they are well funded, likely not in debt and don't mind spending money to make their clients happy. So saying that, you definately need consider Hostgator. 30 day money back guarantee. 24x7 contacts in multiple ways. They are one of the fastest growing hosts around it shows since they can afford to give more back to the customer. Also, check out their affialite program. I've heard there are people making full time incomes by doing nothing but referring accounts. There are other places that do a good job, but how many here gave a thumbs up to HG? That speaks a lot right there

I am currently with Reseller Zoom. Impressive support. If you want good support I did suggest them. But have friends hosted with Host Gator and they too have real quick support. So I guess Host Gator i the way to go!

What you want is high quality live chat over phone support.

Kinder gathered that from all the other posts, if you read them all you will see
