Do I need reseller hosting?

| i've been looking at getting a reseller account through someone like hostgator...
basically, i want to host about 5-10 small websites all on their own domains, and i dont want to the search engines to confuse them. : )
do i need a reseller account to accomplish this? from the research i've done it seems like it is a good thing to have a reseller account if you plan on hosting a bunch of domains.
any advice is much appreciated!

It would be much cheaper getting a reseller account rather than buying seperate accounts..
These days, you can get a decent reseller account for the same price as a your typical hosting account..

| i've noticed some people get one shared hosting account and use it for multiple domains...seems like a bad idea to me?
with a reseller account, i can get a dedicated ip for each domain, no?

| Not really, shared hosting works just fine - especially if the host is using a control panel that has a proper system for managing additional domains, such as H-Sphere
That is actually not the case, you would need to pay for each dedicated IP as well as provide justification for it (in *most* cases) as you would on a shared account.
Judging from the needs you portrayed there isn't really a clear benefit that a reseller account posesses as opposed to a shared account, for your purpose, that is.

| If it is a dedicated IP you want with each account you should make sure in advance that you would get a dedicated IP for each. There is usually an small extra charge for dedicated IP's and I haven't heard of any benefit besides the SEO benefit (if any).

| so if i do want to put a bunch of domains on one shared hosting account, what should i look for? it seems there would be some important features to have?
i normally just have 1 site on 1 account - so having multiple sites on one account is a whole new animal for me

just curious what is the *ideal* way to host about 10 websites? would a dedicated server be ideal? (if money were no object)
what would be ideal for less than about $50/month?

| A vps would be good to start with, but if your needs are low and you do not require a lot of server's resources you can go with a big reseller account
I doubt you need a dedicated server, and I highly doubt you will find one for $50 per month. Best of luck!

| I don't think there is an "ideal". It depends on what you need. A $6500 dedicated server wouldn't be ideal if it couldn't be administered well. If it was me, and I had to host ten sites, for less than $50 and uptime in the high 99% was good enough, the ideal thing would be get a reseller account, or two and use some kind of failover service like this place offers https://www.dnsmadeeasy.com/ .

| if all they are different customers, you should go with reseller package. In case your customers want to control their own control panels. It depends on how busy their websites are too, but I think you can start with a small package, something likes 1x usd/month

| If it's all your websites and you don't need/want more than one control panel access, you could just pick a shared hosting account that allows you to have 10 domains in one account. I definitely wouldn't recommend a VPS, you'd give up speed for zero gains.

| Reseller plan will be the best for you. VPS and dedicated server will cost you more money and time to manage it.

| Yeah, VPS would be a bit overkill it seems.
You could go 2 ways with this. A shared hosting account with addon domains or a rseller account. Both will work for you, but the reseller account would be harder to manage (more software).
