Moving to new reseller acc... way to export/import sites (H-Sphere)?

I'm moving my hosting from DIY as soon as possible to another host who also uses H-Sphere. Is there an easier way to move my sites to this new host given that the cp's are the same? Some of the sites contain DB's so that complicates things just a bit. Any thoughts, advice or caveats?

Hello cleininger, there really isnt an "easy" way to do this. If you have root access on both installs, you can automate it somewhat, however, without this, the process will be manual. There are really 2 approaches: 1) setup your new hsphere account with the same DNS zone and service domain you used on your old servers > setup all client accounts > migrate all data > setup all emails > migrate all DB's > change your nameserver IP's and you are done > fix any issues that may come up after things resolve to your new server 2) use a new domain as a service domain (ie if your current service domain is servicedomain.com user servicedomain.net) > create all client accounts > move 1 account over at a time and change the clients DNS to point to your new nameservers Option 1 is quicker but option 2 is safer.. Hope this helps...

My suggestion would be a bit of an expansion to Andrew's second suggestion: I would get an additional domain (.net, .org, etc version of your .com) and set the new account up with that service domain. You can then use this to preview sites through the instant access URL found in the domain options screen inside H-Sphere's user control panel. This makes sure that no problems occur when the sites go live with your new provider. In addition, you could make your move a little easier by making an archive of each user account through webshell4. Then, once you have your new provider, use the inbuilt FTP client and download the content from DIYHosting's servers directly to your new provider. Make sure that when moving the databases over, you choose the same usernames for the control panel because this will dictate the name you can give to the database(s) with your new provider. Simon

Simon makes a great point here - if you name the accounts and databases (db name, db username and db password) the exact same, the migration of DB driven sites will be ALOT easier, as no changes will be required in the connection strings of the various apps.
