Reseller account and webhosting on different accounts possible?

Posted by AnmolTech, 03-22-2006, 03:59 PM
I know i did not word it properly so let me explain. 1) I would like to purchase a reseller account with one company. BUT at the same time i want my business website hosted at an other company BECAUSE i might change my reseller accounts in the future but will not change where my biz website is hosted. Does the above make sense? basically my question means ;; do i have to have my website hosted at the same host where i am buying a reseller account from. Question 2) I want to have Modernbill but my reseller has clientexec( i know i can save money by just accepting what the reseller account offers since i am just starting out). Can i install modernbill EVENTHOUGH my reseller account is giving me clientexec? Thanks

Here is a good plan. Use your business domain name on the second host. Then buy a domain such as anonymous5325.com and use it as the reseller main account, get private name servers on it, then you will have a somewhat anonymous DNS for your clients. As for having modernbill. Your Host is going to give you ClientExec, you can either tell them you don't want it, or use it. I'd use it while they're giving it to you, unless you have a modernbill license. If you have a modernbill license, then just tell them to keep the client exec so you can use modernbill.

swflnetworks: Thanks for answering -- I understood the second part of the answer. I am not worried about annonymous DNS etc. I want to know simply if i can host my actual webhosting Biz website with one hosting company(lets call this reseller #1) while actually buying space/bandwidth from an other reseller(reseller #2). Because i might change reseller #2 in the future i dont want my Biz website with reseller #2. I know reseller #1 is good but does not offer good reseller packages so i will take the cheapest package with reseller #1. I hope i am making sense. so i am back to the same basic question. do i have to have my biz website hosted at the same host(reseller) where i am buying a reseller account from?? Thanks

Put simply. Yes you can. Set your business website nameservers to host #1. Create nameservers host #2 (the one you have the reseller account with) and tell your customers to use the nameservers you created at host #2... Shouldn't have any problems doing it...

Ok i understand , now for a few more noob q's.! When a reseller says he is offering Cpanel, clientexec etc -- do they physically reside on my biz website whereever it is hosted? or does it reside physically on his server? Thanks possible few more q's to come. -- tia

When they say they offer cpanel & clientexec etc. The cpanel will reside on the domain you tell them. Or if they allow it without a domain, you would simply login using the IP address. It will reside physically on the server due to licensing issues. As for ClientExec, it won't be installed or anything. They simply issue you a license to use, however, again due to licensing issues, it will reside on the reseller server and not on your business website (assuming you don't put it on the same server as your customers)...

ClientExec issues licenses by domain names and not by IP addresses. So if you have it issued to you for your business website url you can use ClientExec on it no matter what server its on.
