Reseller Hosting Advice

Posted by Lythia, 01-10-2006, 03:38 PM
Hi folks, I'm shopping around for a reseller host that is around $30 a month or less. I currently only have about 6 domains I need hosted, but that'll grow as I grow... and I want to find a reliable reseller host I can grow with. My sys-admin friend highly recommended Plesk over WHM (which is what I'm using right now). To be honest, WHM (maybe it's the skin) looks like a total mess. He says Plesk for the end user is not much better than Cpanel. For Plesk for the reseller admin beats out WHM by far. (WHM is the reseller version of Cpanel, I think, yes?) However, after reading around and running some searches I hear people complain about Plesk licensing issues. Is that something that is going to plague me as a reseller host, as I add domains to my reseller account? And then the simple question, any places to read reviews on reseller hosts, and does anyone know of a few good Plesk reseller host service? Quick Summary of Questions (for those who are too lazy to read what I wrote above): - Reviews and up-time history of reseller hosts? (findmyhosting.com was one I used long ago, don't know if there's other ones) - Suggestions/info on reseller hosts that offer Plesk? - As a reseller, will Plesk licensing be an issue for me at all?

I know that we have run a plesk server and we did not having any licence problems it went pritty smooth but there was not much demand for it so we got rid of it. I love cpanel/whm I would no trade it for any control panel out there, I think it is by far the best and most of our clients are already fimilar with it and dont need much if any training with it. And yes WHM is the "reseller version" of cpanel. I am not sure of any webhost review sites that are actually legit (hosts dont put in there own reviews or make friends or selected clients). Good luck finding a host.

I don't see how he can say Plesk beats out WHM by far. I don't see it that way at all. I guess it all depends on what your cpanel host has turned on for you to use in your WHM. I personally find cPanel to be more user friendly than Plesk.

HostNexus offers Plesk web hosting, you might want to look into them. I do not agree with the statement that Plesk is better than WHM, Plesk might have a better GUI but WHM has more features.

sigh* this forum won't let me post a link until I've made 5 posts... and unfortunately it erased the message I already typed out, so I can't just simply remove the link to get it to post.... very annoying restriction now to retype my message... *sigh* lcryan: thanks for the tip. findmyhosting has an Alertra thing that shows you the uptime for each individual host for about 3 years of history. It shows you how many outages they had, and how long they were. I'd post a link to a sampe outage chart for some random host, but I can't post links till 3 more posts later. but that was what I used back then to find hosts with good up-times. WN-Ali: Do a search on whom? I have already run the searches I felt were necessary, before I made my inquiry.
