Dotable.com Review

Posted by freak, 11-07-2005, 10:17 PM
Thought I might as well write my review. I have been with Dotable.com for about half a year. I can't really remember, which I think is a good thing, cause it means I am not counting the days before I leave. I joined Dotable when it is still young (I would say so), largely due to Aussie Bob's success with HTTPme. But it being based in Australia and that I could pay with Money Order made it a huge plus too Pre-sales questions pleased me, but there really weren't too much to ask. Their site has covered almost everything important to me. And they really seemed to know what they were doing. Their RAID-1 harddisk configuration made me feel safe. And they gave me the feeling that they weren't the kind of host which dissapeared as soon as business slowed down. They were pretty flexible with their payment, and they were kind enough to move my site for me even before my money order arrived. The servers were really powerful and delivered sites fast. Bandwidth was of great quality and transfer was really fast. Pings are slow from Australia, but what do you expect, with the price of bandwidth is Australia, I am not paying for the faster Pings. Servers were up most of the time. I didn't bother checking the server loads (again, I don't care about that, so long as my sites are delivered fast, who cares if the server load is 10?). I have noticed one down time which was fixed in a couple of hours. Besides that, I haven't noticed anything, nor have my users complained of downtime. I won't give a figure or anything, but I am more than happy with the downtime. I didn't really test support much. This again, I think it is a good thing since if they don't give me problems, I won't disturb them However, support tickets were typically answered in a timely fashion, usually not more than 6 hours, but often within 2 hours. And answers were mostly helpful and does actually solve the problem, not hiring some lousy nerd who doesn't sleep at night just to play around with you until someone who actually know something wakes up in the morning. In short though, I believe they are a really solid host (at least the best I've tried so far) and if you are looking at them wondering if you should try them, you probably should

Wow, a review on AussieBob's new (well, not that new) hosting business! Thank you for taking the time to let us know how the service is at Dotable. Now, as you might expect, comes the question: can you share a site that you currently host with them? You may use http://www.webhostingtalk.com/report.php?p=3476990 if you don't want to make your domain public.

Dan, Did you check the domain in his profile?

Heh, I knew that one was hosted somewhere else in the past and I assumed it wasn't moved. Lesson learned about assuming.

Oh ****, I have been on file all along. The Mods have been tracing all my personal info, my hosts etc. Scary. Anyways, I tend to jump from host to host. I only handle only a handful of sites, so all my sites move with me (for the time being) Cheers

Let's hope so. Thanks for your kind words. You've just made my day.

Nah, no written records. I can't even recall the old host, I was simply particular it wasn't Dotable last time I checked.
