I do not feel like reading every webhost policy - please can anybody post a list of webhosts that offer uptime guarantee (or vice-versa hosts not offering it)..

We have accounts on Nocster and Site5. Nocster's network uptime guarantee is 99.5% and Site5's is 99.9%

The difficulty is not finding a host with an uptime guarantee, but finding a host that a) meets the standard they set in the guarantee b) does something about it if it falls below the guaranteed level Most uptime guarantees are not worth the font they are written in

Words of truth 247status, words of truth. I believe Pair doesn't have an uptime guarantee.

SonataWeb.net is offering 99.8% uptime guarantee and they mean it. I got my refund last month due to an unforeseen DDOS attack.

Well said. Totally agree. Please keep sending your experience (in spirit of "247status"s posting). Who else does "really" offer the uptime guarantee + really refunds the money if the guarantee is not met?

If you are looking at getting money back an uptime guarantee might sound great. If you are looking for truely reliable service you should think about taking the following steps. Get an account at site like http://host-tracker.com/ and monitor a couple of sites preferablly on different servers at each host you are thinking about using. You can then choose which host actually provides the best service during your trial period. I would set time frame at 5 minute intervals. Ask host when they do maintenance, is it after hours and what type of downtime is associated with the maintenance. Ask if the host has log files from a third party you can look at. Ask the host for referals from e-commerce sites, I know for us if we are down even a few minutes we have a particular number of customers that will call. More experienced hosts will probably have better uptime. They have probably learned how to restrict abuse sites, automatically block DOS, Firewalls are in place, backup and restore stratigies. All issue that are learned the hard way after a number of years.

If this is true, and it seems by the follow-up posts there is an implication that this is "the norm" with many hosts -- why do these hosts still have clients? I'm just curious from the customer's perspective, because we do offer a SLA and have issued refunds to clients several times over the past 5 years when that level wasn't met for whatever reason. Even when the downtime wasn't our responsibility, for instance once a fiber line was mistakenly cut outside of a data center we use by the carrier causing a 32 hour loss of connection. Most would understand and appreciate that our TOS/AUP doesn't leave us liable for the downtime experienced in this case, but we still issued full monthly refunds to our clients located on servers in that data center for the month. It just seems like good and smart business. Better to refund one month and make everyone happy rather than take the hit to our reputation and client base if we leave customers upset over the outage. So I'm curious from the customer point of view, based on threads like this one, if so many customers are upset with their provider's service level and apparently so many hosts aren't keeping to their own SLA terms, why do you feel they still have customers? Thanks, Scott

Price and did I metion Price and it might be Price. A lot of people will complain but when it gets to how much do they pay, they even don't expect to get great uptime and pay nothing for it. So the only thing left to do is complain. Why else would they stay??
