Ebay has been a bust for me so far. My first mistake might have been to offer an auction for only the annual price, and not include an option for a monthly auction. That was dumb, I should have listed the auction for monthly rates, as people looking for an auction want a low price to bid on, even if the annual rate is cheaper in the long run.
My second round of ebaying offers three months of any plan i offer for only $3 (total), then the customer would have to pay the regular monthly or annual price on the selected plan. I thought this was a good promotion, but it has seen no buyers yet.
I don't think my problem is with what I am offering, I think ebay is just too jam packed with companies offering reseller accounts, that sombody using a reseller account gets swamped by the bigger and better offers.
If anybody wants to take a look at my most recent auction please let me know what you think of what I am offering, and how my auction is presented. I think I am offering a good deal, that looks professional. to get the link, please send me an emai at mike@bluedotlabs.com. I am new to this board, and this being my first post, I am not allowed to post a link at this time.
Anybody have good experience in advertising with a reseller business?
My next try is probably going to be with my local newspaper, but I need to recover from my ebay selling fees first.

You can place your offer in this forum in right section or other directories.

Try browsing here: www.hostdirs.com
That's a pretty big list of all the hosting directories.

I took just a glance at that site, it definately looks like I am going to have to investigate it when I have some more time. Looks like it has a lot to offer.
I would think that ppl would be more likely to respond to internet advertising when searching for a web host, rather than tradational media. Any experience?

I find that it can be more beneficial, when starting out, to use local advertising as opposed to online.
Local advertising is very cost effective, and can give you a great base to grow your company from.
Pamphlets, local newspaper ad's, and even the local cable TV guide channel all proved effective for us in a local environment.

I will probably be placing some ads thru this website at some point in the near future. I think the costs seem pretty good. Any thoughts?

Local advertising and targeted site sponsorships have been known to work well, though we have not tried either method (yet).

Blue Dot Labs,
To recover the cost of earlier advertisement You should concentrate more into the local market as other members are suggesting , especially the submarket, as the market is not homogeneous hence you should adopt some changes as per your market segmentation based on your market analysis & competition surrounding you.
You should improve the contents of your site, as well as look for the other cost effective way of ad like yellow pages or weekly magazine or prominent newspapers etc which you think best.
