DOS Atack on juno ???

Posted by ACcomunica, 02-27-2005, 02:56 PM
Resellerzoom must be under atack, server load is 13.65 now and I'm still having mail problems. If only support could give some explanation. I'm posting on their forum as well but no reply so far . Where's everybody???

Server load on Juno is 1.41, though I admit it has been fluctuating today. Hit them on livechat via hostingzoom.com to find out what is happening with the mail situation.

There wasn't a DDoS on this server. We're just being a bit generous with our resource limits at this time but we'll start tightening it down from now on.

Did you open a ticket with them before coming here?

Posted by ACcomunica, 02-27-2005, 05:55 PM
Yes, the ticket is open now, server is stable and we are trying to figure out some mail issues. I'll keep this thread up to date. Anyway, things are better and I think resellerzoom servers are cruising now. I did not understand what HostingZom meant by being a bit generous with our resources limits.

What I meant was that we have a custom script that limits resource usage per account. About a month ago we had it set to what we thought was a generous amount but as it turned out, alot of people got 500 errors because of it. Even though loads were low and servers were cruising along with the limits, we decided raised it a bit because of the few users with 500 errors which meant they are reaching their limits and the script kills the processes. Since then, we've raised it more and more to help those few out which is probably a mistake. In turn, it causes higher loads which leads to crashes because those bad scripts are using up all the resources. So, from now on, I'm having the limits tightened up on all resellerzoom servers to keep loads low and prevent crashes. That is what I meant.

Thanks a lot for your explanation HostingZoom. Now everything is back to normal as I understand and resellerzoom customers should not worry about it anymore. Right? Just to make it clear: I'm a very satisfied ResellerZoom costumer, uptime is excelllent, supportt staff is great. I completely understand thing go wrong sometimes. I hope we are back on track now. Yes, I recommend ResellerZoom. They REALLY make reseller hosting affordable!

So.... does that mean you will now lower the resources , and a lot of pages will hit 500 error page? Joshua

This just means that it will help prevent sites with poorly coded scripts from overloading our server and ultimately crashing it. The adjusted limits still are very generous for any website to operatate normally and if it does hit the limit, that just means you'll need to take a look the script and optimize it as necessary. This will ultimately benefit the majority of users.

I'm in resellerzoom, I plan in future install oscommerce program for office web shop. Will be any limits resource usage for oscommerce ? 8,000 products inside MySQL Thanks

its about hits and visits, not number of products, plus OSC is fast and "basic" stuff, that might be cached very easy. remember to cache the category tree and will be fine.

thanks szczym, How I do this: cache the category tree ? from admin ? I saw the only option under TOOLS: CACHE CONTROL but I don't know how works. Thanks
