Time to leave Resellerzoom

Posted by hotrod1, 02-21-2005, 05:14 PM
Well recently resellerzoom has been down alot and having major problems so I want to get of their problems before it gets any worse. Could somebody reccomend an awesome host for $25 and has 5-10gb/50-100gb hosting. Thanks alot for your time. Mike

I recommend going over your needs and finding out exactly what you need for resources as far as disk space and bandwidth, your price is somewhat low to be asking for a reliable provider to offer that so maybe you can see if either you can lower your requirements of up your price and look for a reliable host or risk the chance of coming back here a couple of months down the road with the same issue.

Thanks for the advice I will be more open and look at all of your suggestions instead of limiting them now.

Hello, Just looking over our Alertra uptime report, it shows the server you are on having a 99.8% uptime so far for the month. We had an issue a few days ago where another client's script was compromised and used to attack our server but immediately blocked it and everything was back to normal. Downtime was no more than 3-5 minutes. We've had some issues today but downtime was for no more than 5 minutes total. If you're looking for 99.99%+ uptime then you're on the right track by looking to spend a little bit more as these low end reseller plans tend to attract more abusers. Good luck!

Its always like this, isn't it? Users get fed up when they hit a bit of downtime. Even with 99.93% uptime, I get a client who is leaving for another web host.

Posted by hotrod1, 02-21-2005, 08:14 PM
Well I got fed up because once they fixed everything it went down again and apache was down, mysql was down, exim was down, the hard drive was at 80% so I was mad but everything is alright now.

To me resellerzoom is not so bad, 5 minute down time one or two in one day is acceptable, last mount was 100% up, for what you pay is very good. Not body is perfect. May be others companys can give you 99.99% but who knows. Look my SiteUptime monitored: http://www.siteuptime.com/prem_stati...&&UserId=19553 ( checks every 5 minutes ) To my is very importan: - fast suppot - Uptime not less than 99.80% - Down time not more than 5 or 10 minutes - Down time not more than 5 o 6 times in a week Resellerzoom is good to my in price and becouse I get what I need. Oslo I have a second reseller account (http://www.ultraunix.net/offer/) , for backup by dnsmadeeasy.com. Good luck.

You must be referring to the /usr partition at 80%. Our /home is currently 16%. We've cleaned up /usr a bit and now currently at about 65% but honestly nothing to be concerned about. We did have some issues but total downtime was about 5 minutes or less.

Alright thanks everything is fine now but it was really shaky yesterday.

Posted by hotrod1, 02-22-2005, 05:54 PM
Well I have decedied that I definetly want to move because their servers are just unstable and the server loads are always high.

Posted by ioZoom, 02-22-2005, 06:43 PM
I'm not sure why you feel you must come here and post false information. Quote: "Their servers are just unstable" As already mentioned, we had some issues with the server I believe yesterday where it went down for about 5 minutes or less. I wouldn't consider that unstable at all since the server is currently maintaining a 99.8% this month and was 99.8% last month. The server was never down today so I'm not sure where the unstable comes from. All of our servers combined on resellerzoom avg 99.8% uptime for the month according to Alertra. Quote: "server loads are always high." As of this writing, the server loads over the last few minutes is around 1.03 - 1.20. About 10 minutes ago, it jumped to around 4.00 for about 30 seconds when a user was updating their stats. Understand that server load fluctuate.

Posted by hotrod1, 02-22-2005, 08:07 PM
Well I always see that exim is going up and down and I am not talking about current server loads I have seen them up at 25% at times and its very frustrating. I would like to think that it is temporary but I have been seeing this going on for a couple of days now and I dont want to be caught in this.

I'd like to know which server you're on. I've been with HZ for a month now and have nothing but high praises for Vlad and Kiet and donate some of my time in their support forums. They've both been truly wonderful to deal with and the server that I'm on has had outstanding uptime and no issues whatsoever. Are you sure that the problems that you're describing aren't self induced? What don't you want to be "caught in"? Have you even contacted them via the multiple channels for support?

Posted by hotrod1, 02-23-2005, 12:46 PM
Well for one thing I am with resellerzoom and I am sure that they are not because whenever I contact support they tell me that it is another client and I dont want to be caught in this pattern. And yes I have contacted support numerous times. I really like RZ they have great support and uptime is awesome but it is a nuisance to have to sit through fluxuating server loads at times but it seems that their period of downtime and high server loads has pretty much ended.

Posted by exclaim, 02-23-2005, 10:58 PM
A couple days ago (I think this is the incident HostingZoom mentioned earlier n this thread) I had contacted support thru their live chat and asked about my server, it was taking forever for any pages to load and the status in my WHM was blinking red. Within a couple minutes they determined another account was running a script that hogged resources and disabled it. Within a minute everything was back to normal! This alone gives me confidence on HostingZoom (technically I'm a resellerzoom client).

Posted by hotrod1, 02-24-2005, 03:10 PM
Yeah their support is really great but their period of downtime is over and they are a great host now (not that they werent before but their downtime was a nusance).

Posted by hostingtalkuser, 02-24-2005, 04:08 PM
for that price (25) and those specs, you could have them [resellerzoom] switch you to hostingzoom. I talked to them about the diff. between the 2 and they said better servers, support, more reliable, and also the end user support and billing software. I have an account on resellerzoom and never had any problems with downtime. My site is monitored by siteuptime since last week. Statistics: 100% uptime, 0 outage.

Also on RZ I have had a few downtimes but better then expected for a budget reseller.

I just took a look at AllManaged but couldn't work out whether their advertised reseller costs are before or after the 50% discount they mention on their specials page. I will test their support system with the same question :-)

Posted by dyrer, 02-27-2005, 05:30 AM
You cannot compare rz and allmanaged plans, is different type of hosting and different price

Posted by ChrisBowd, 02-27-2005, 07:34 AM
hi dyrer, i don't think anyone is/was comparing resellerzoom and allmanaged - i was just making a simple observation regarding a lack of clarity on allmanaged's site. that said, it is now more than 4 hours since i sent allmanaged an email asking for clarification and still no answer.

look at this terrible shot from resellerzoom... Date: Thu, 13 Jan 2005 20:04:48 -0600 The Zeus server is suffering from a bad primary hard drive. It is currently up and running, but due to the drive issues, we will be swapping it out to replace the primary drive. We will be doing a restore from the old primary drive, as soon as the system is up on the newly installed operating system. We will have to reinstall and reconfigure some things, while the base system (OS, Cpanel, Apache/PHP) will need a reinstall. We will be restoring all the relevant data from the old primary drive so your data is up to date. However, it's not a bad idea to log in and back up your data anyway. The server will be going down in the next 30 minutes to 1 hour. We realize this isn't a great time window to download your backup, but the circumstances of the hardware failure do not leave us with any other choice and the longer the system remains up and running, the more potential file corruption can occur. Also, be aware that we also have daily and weekly backups of this new server, so if there's any data corruption on the old primary hard drive, we will be able to restore from that. We apologize for this issue, as we weren't able to foresee it--this is a new drive and new server. We started making arrangements are soon as the server failed earlier and we viewed the logs showing drive issues. Should you have any questions or concerns, please let us know. We anticipate this to take about 2 or 3 hours total, if not less, though we have no exact ETA. Also, we expect this transition to go smoothly, other than the downtime. Regards, Robert McGregor. Hosting Zoom, Inc. 11205 Bellaire Blvd., Suite B-27 Houston, TX 77072 Phone: 888-565-1145 Fax: 713-554-1309 --- and then... Date: Sun, 27 Feb 2005 12:28:34 -0600 The hard drive is the zeus server failed and needs to be replace. Due to the circumstances, we are unable to move any accounts to another server before doing this since the server would only boot up for a few minutes before dying out. We will be replacing the hard drive and reinstalling the operating system, cpanel, and build the web server. Then we'll have to do a restore from our backup drive. We will keep everyone updated as this progresses. I deeply and sincerely apologize for any troubles this is causing any of you. Regards, Kiet Duong Customer Support what do you thing.... because a thinks it will be happen in the next 40 days

This doesnt look very good at all. I thought they just open shop for business. And had the best equipment at hand. I wonder if ResellerZoom and HostingZoom is on the same servers. Anyone know? Joshua

Posted by exclaim, 02-28-2005, 02:32 AM
HZ and RZ are on different servers. This is why they charge more to HZ resellers, better support, better servers. I know the RZ servers use dual Xeon 2.4, and the HZ servers use dual Xeon 2.8, other than that I don't know more.

When you are unlucky enough to get a lousy hard drive from the manufacturer, there's nothing much you can do except claiming your warranty to get a replacement.

Posted by ioZoom, 02-28-2005, 03:14 AM
We have been very unfortunate with the zeus server. The hard drive has failed twice now in the last 2 months. Everything has been back up and running. There are still alot of small things we have to do but pretty much all sites on the zeus server have been restored. As ORiN said, hard drives will fail. We've just been unfortunate enough to have 2 drive failures on the same server in such a short period of time. HZ and RZ servers are different and located in different DC's.

Is the server sufficiently cooled? 2 hd failures within 2 months could be extremely bad luck but it would also lead me to believe there may be faults with the environment in which thhe hd is operating.

Posted by Arno|VDH, 02-28-2005, 04:18 AM
very bad luck there HZ, within 2 months 2 hdd failed in the same server it's indeed either very bad luck or something is indeed wrong with the environment likely a to hot 1 perhaps
