MX Suspension

Posted by mdterp, 02-21-2005, 10:33 PM
I've been a reseller for a few yrs with a hosting company that has all of a suddend started to suspend MX's for domains that receive too much incoming spam. The only way we can get their MX unsuspended is to purchase their "Spamalizer"... Has anyone else heard of this? It's like their forcing us to buy this feature... Please enlighten me as I am a bit upset with them right now. Thanks!

How much is too much? Do they have storage limits for email? It sounds a little shady.

I would think this is a host problem and they need to run some spam blocker and rbl (real time black lists) on their mail server.

It's only $2.08 per domain. But as a reseller that could be an additional $100 per month with only 50 clients. And I will not charge my clients for something this insane. No, there are no storage limits for email.

Well we have seen clients get GB's of spam a day, so it can happen if you get on those lists. This will require a lot of resources to run the various services on a mail server, especially if it one of the Control panels with everything on one server. Perhaps your host could look into a hardware solution in the front-end to block/process all this before it hits the mail server. Works really good IMO.

They won't do this. You'd be surprise on the company that is doing this too! They're not a small group! Thanks for the feedback!

Hello, We are not charging customers who's MX records are being suspended for Spamalizer, there was a bit of confusion on our end as to the official policy regarding this, we are going to be setting that up shortly. Affected customers should be contacted soon.

Isn't just as easy to block the Spammers IP from the server?
