Billing software? Si o no?

Posted by VER-Mo, 12-19-2004, 01:22 PM
Ive been toying with the idea of bundling billing software with the reseller plans that I sell (the more expensive plans at least). PHPcoin already comes with Fantastico which I offer, but Im not a big fan of PHPcoin, and I suspect many other persons arent. So Im thinking of including one of the more popular billing packages with my reseller plans. Before I take the plunge though, I want to be sure that its worth it. I want to ask those of you who have purchased reseller plans in the past a question. When you were doing your search for a reseller account provider, how much did the fact that the host did/did not bundle billing software with their packages affect your decision? Thanks in advance for your replies.

it made my decision, I specifically was looking for an account that offered modernbill, even at an extra cost I made sure my host offered it.

Well it will be great in all ways , even if there is not many hosters who give their resellers billing solution but surely the resellers will be satisfied , i am not using modernbill for my clients i am using a host admin solution and all my resellers were very content having it to facilate their process and only add their merchant account or third party account access to their panel and accept credit cards! Just go for it , i dont think you will find it much expensive anyway and it will surely return a profit to you !

I'd like to see you add one, as I've been searching around for some billing software, and have been fighting with phpCOIN for a week or two now, and am not terribly happy with it. How about WHMAutoPilot for all your resellers? ;-)

How are you Moni-Q? ClientExec offers a program to offer your clients Clientexec at a very nice discount rate. We offer this and It has made a huge difference. Modernbill is good but installing it is a pain at times. It also has lots of features that most new webhosts wont use in the begining and may not even understand how it works so therefor your helpdesk with be filled with support request on how to use it. If you have a solid knowledge in modernbill and can address any issue about it, then you may not have any problems. ClientExec is easy to understand for new webhosts and it's very simple to install. Takes me no more then 5 minutes to do a complete install. PHPCoin I have only used it once and didn't like it. It just didn't suite my needs. WHM Autopilot I have never used it but reveiws on here are pretty good about it. Not sure if they have a reseller program but im sure you can look it up as I have seen other hosts in the past offer this with their plans before. Good luck to you! I hope I helped you in some way..

These days I have been strongly considering bundling ClientExec with one of my reseller plans (the most expensive one). Its not something I'll be doing before next quarter though. ClientExec is what I use to manage my own customers, and Im quite happy with it (a fault or two but no billing program is perfect), they also have attractive packages for those looking to resell ClientExec licenses to their customers.

I agree BRMatt, Modernbill has a much steeper learning curve but it is also worth it once you master it. Clientexec is much easier to install and to learn but it also lacks alot of options and modules that you might be needing 6 months from now. Both are very good in their own right!

I would recommend you try it out and see how it does. You can buy a bulk of 3 license for "I think" $15.00 per month. which is a very good price for what the software does and how easy it is to manage. You also stated you use it yourself so you have a basic knowledge of how it works. It's always a good idea to go with something you already know how to work. Therfor when a customer ask how you use a feature, You can respond with a quick answer instead of looking it up somewhere else and spending hours researching the answer. Good Luck!

I agree with wcws, modernbill does have a steeper learning curve but it is well worth it. We offer it with our higher priced resellers packages and it made the a difference. You do get more support tickets because of it but it is worth it.

it didn't because I already had one BUT if I was doing that part over again(being a reseller) I would have a big bearing on which hosts. It will give you a small edge over the other hosts that don't offer billing software. My vote by the way for the software is WhoisCart
