top reseller wanted -- equivalent of Rackspace.com
Posted by nyc2004, 01-06-2005, 01:39 AM |
I once had a dedicated server with rackspace for a year for a high traffic promotional site. Service was great, uptime was solid, but even though it was 'managed', it still required attention for patch upgrades, etc ...
what I'm looking for now is a reseller type account ( my sites are low traffic for the most part ) at that level of rackspace.com -- one with amazing uptime, 24/7 phone support, dedicated account managers ?
Does such a company exist ? I'm more than happy to spend good money to get peace of mind. I make my real money on project development and not hosting, but often my Clients ask for hosting as well ....
any companies people here recommend ? Should I look at Verio ? or even at their VPS solution ?
any feedback is appreciated.

I'm trying to think hard but can't think of one. However, if you're willing to spend good money, why don't you just go with Rackspace and have a third-party server management company like EasyServerManagement take care of the patches?

thanks -- I'll check out EasyServerManagment ...
I also see that Rackspace is about to offer an interesting reseller-like package with full support ...

Rackspace already provides full sever management... and I'd be willing to bet it would be equal, if not better than, ESM's.

it's full server management, but in my mind ( maybe I'm wrong ) they do less than what a good reseller host would do for you - in that they want you to be more hands-on.
for example
- that phpbb worm issue last few weeks -- a good host would alert you and even take proactive action to fix it or disable the offending script. Rackspace would not necessarily do that, right ?
- patches and upgrades are extra, and rackspace would not alert you to needing to upgrade ...
and plus, I still think a dedicated server is overkill for my current needs -- I don't mind being on a shared server -- I just want the robust network, killer up-time, and escalation process that Rackspace has via their amazing support ..
getting tired of submitting a ticket and waiting for an answer while a client goes crazy -- I think I need a live person who knows what's going on

Greetings:
Unless something has changed recently, the above is incorrect.
Rackspace.com provides managed hosting which includes a level of server management. It is certainly not full server management.
Thank you.

What is your monthly budget?

I'm confused - are you looking for the top reseller or the top management company?

Monthly budget -- don't mind spending on average of $10/month per client. So if I host 20 clients, I'm ok with spending $200/month if I know i'm getting amazing service/uptime/etc - and a live person on the phone if problems do occur.

i'm looking for the top reseller account for myself to host my clients.

You might want to perhaps give httpme.com a call (email the owner directly) and ask if they are interested in a custom arrangement. My experience with httpme.com is that they desire to fit into the "high end reseller" area, so maybe the owner is willing to work with you. Their server management is outstanding and I'm confident that if they can set up the "customer side" of things they would be the reseller equivalent of rackspace.
Other then that suggestion, I don't know about any companies that offer high-end reseller services such as you have described.
It's an interesting market niche though.

There are several good resellers that will provide you with that kind of support or better. Look around do a search on reseller host.
What you are asking for is just good service and what everyone should expect for their reseller account. I do not see that you are asking for anything that special myself, just steer clear of the cheap overselling host and you should be OK.
