Trying VPS
Posted by ozzie123, 06-24-2004, 05:04 AM |
Hello guys,
I wanted to try some VPS hosting (since I heard a lot of good an interesting post in WHT ). I don't want to transfer all of my reseller account to my VPS account just yet.
I need to get a hand and feel of VPS hosting before I wanted to fully integrate my service.
Do you guys know a decent but cheap VPS provider (that can accept credit card -- don't have paypal)? I won't use it for hosting my sites and accounts under me. I just wanted to know the feel of VPS hosting before I completely decide.
Thank you

Try Servint.net or Jvds.com . You do not need to transfer your customers over. Maybe if you do have an unused domain, you could set it up there and give it a spin around.

The cheapest price for servint is around $50/month. Better spend that money else where
I think I'll try jvds. Which package do you think should I choose (petit, normal, unmetered, directadmin, etc)?
Thanks

Since you are just testing things out, get the cheapest one u can that includes the control panel u want to use.
BTW, ServInt's sales department told me that their VPS product is mostly the same as the reseller account I currently have. Maintenance is a simple as a button click to update ur software when an update becomes available.
The other difference I noted was that some components that were preconfigured on my reseller account (CURL, Zend, GD.lib, etc) might not be on the VPS product. Support will install these components for you as per your request, however. BTW, WHT members are given 10 days free (with 1 month payment) to get all of their accounts set up.
HTH,
