IIS mod_rewrite? or does it natively support rewriting URL
Posted by wheimeng, 01-05-2010, 11:11 AM |
Hello,
I've made some search on emulation of mod_rewrite for IIS, but some of the reviews were quite old.
Anyone had luck using mod_rewrite on IIS? If not, what could be other alternatives?
Having that said, (I'm a Windows & IIS noob), does IIS support rewrite feature?
Might look into rewriting the rule to IIS format if they support it natively.

I don't think IIS natively has a URL rewriting mechanism. Have you tried isapi rewrite? http://www.isapirewrite.com/ - the lite version is free.

mod_rewrite is an Apache module so you can't use it with IIS. However, you can use other third party software i.e. ISAPI rewrite (by HeliconTech). Windows 2008 (IIS 7) has built-in support to rewrite URLs.

With URL Rewrite in IIS 7 mod_rewrite rules work just fine. URL Rewrite is free from MS.
With IIS versions previous to 7, as the others said, check out ISAPI Rewrite.

IIS/7 on Windows 2008 supports URL rewriting without any problems. However you may use some free rewrite modules made for by Windows based servers.

You may have a look at Helicon Ape product which implements mod_rewrite and 30+ other Apache modules on IIS7 (7.5). And it's free for up to 3 sites.
