Hello. My question is regarding advertising. What do you guys do to advertise locally? What steps do you take to do it effectively, and how do you do it? Thanks, I would appreciate your help.

some of CharlotteHosting's practices can and will get you banned from search engines.

Posted by CharlotteHosting, 06-22-2004, 08:26 PM
Name one. Doorway pages are not illegal on any se. Neither are free links pages. I hate se newbs.

Posted by Hostivo, 06-22-2004, 08:26 PM
Really what you you suggest I do?

Posted by CharlotteHosting, 06-22-2004, 08:28 PM
You can read any search engines TOS ( Terms of service), none of the things I mentioned above will get you banned from any major se. ie: msn, yahoo, google, altavista People on this site try to defame others so hard it's almost amusing. Get mad at me all you want, he asked a question so I answered it.

I like your website, who designed it?

Posted by CharlotteHosting, 06-22-2004, 08:30 PM
Who, me? Or him. I hope your not talking about me, I hate the design of my site

Posted by Hostivo, 06-22-2004, 08:31 PM
Thank you for answering, I value your advice, what ever works right?

Posted by Hostivo, 06-22-2004, 08:33 PM
Your site, how do you get local buisnesses?

Posted by CharlotteHosting, 06-22-2004, 08:35 PM
This is a business, just like any real world business that you could open the door and walk into. The problem I am finding though is that not many people treat web hosting as a real business. As you peruse this board you can see that in particular posts and people. This is a business that YOU will be running, advertising and supporting. There are many tricks to advertising your business online, some good some bad, but none of the ones I mentioned are bad, and none will get you banned by search engines. DO NOT however do doorway BOMBING, link cloaks, spam pages, spam doorway cloaking, they will get you banned. If you have more questions email me at postmaster@charlottewebhosting.com and we can leave the trolls behind to waste other people's time.

Ok, Will do, you know what you are talking about!

Posted by CharlotteHosting, 06-22-2004, 08:37 PM
Billboards, phone book, word of mouth, radio ads.

Posted by Hostivo, 06-22-2004, 08:38 PM
Thanks, I will need to do that ASAP!

Anyone else have good ways that they can share?

Posted by bizness, 06-22-2004, 08:42 PM
Please hesitate to conduct your childish NEWB remarks until you actually research the subject. This is someone asking in google answers regarding doorway pages... http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=36410 If you still feel doorway pages are not against google's policies, please check their report a spam link... You will find it in their top 7 reasons in reporting spam to google. http://www.google.com/contact/spamreport.html here is the kicker of it all.... here is what google recommends when looking for SEO companies. http://www.google.com/webmasters/seo.html

Thanks, good advice.

You DO know that by doorway pages they are pages that are on seperate domains each as a mirrored site of your main domain right? Of course not, your talking about "doorway bombing", which is using pages as ie: index1.html index2.html and so on. But I thought you'd know that as your a seo. Don't confuse doorway pages with doorway bombing.

Posted by Hostivo, 06-22-2004, 08:50 PM
Yes, good thought. Well you guys would know.

Posted by bizness, 06-22-2004, 08:52 PM
Nope, im also talking about pages that are on seperate domains. Essentially, clients pay SEO companies to optimize domains not owned by the client but the SEO firm... which are then easily redirected where ever the SEO firm wants to when the client isnt happy.

Posted by Hostivo, 06-22-2004, 08:53 PM
How much do you charge for SEO? Can you get the google page rank up to like 8 or 9?

Posted by CharlotteHosting, 06-22-2004, 08:56 PM
That is not what Im saying at all, you know that now via icq...

Posted by Hostivo, 06-22-2004, 08:57 PM
So what have you guys come up with?

Posted by Hostivo, 06-22-2004, 08:59 PM
I'm trying to figure it out, I will have to look up on that and let you guys know. Anyone else know anything about advertising, please feel free to share. Thanks!

Guys, Realistically speaking - yellow pages might cut it for a carpet cleaning business and a local print shop, but not for a web host. I'm just curious to see if anyone has actually tried posting an ad in YP and if you've gotten anything out of it? Boris

Posted by CharlotteHosting, 06-22-2004, 10:49 PM
I have. I have a city of almost 2 million businesses, are you kidding me? A half page ad in the phone book? Most corporations will go to a phone book first and just turn to Web Hosting and call.
