host4me.. scammers!!!
Posted by darkage, 04-29-2004, 05:48 PM |
Hi,
www.host4me.net just had a site make-over... however the service and support is horendous. its HORRIBLE!!! Quite personally, I believe they are complete scam artists.
I bought the ebay account for $50 (unlimited all) and decided to try. They were good. Then, all of a sudden 3 weeks later downtime booms up. I call them 5 times but yet nothing. Emails... nope.
Anyhow, i have 100 customers on the server. I am renting one from nocster tomorrow. Is there any way to transfer everything or to have the customers signup again to have their acccounts automatically made on that server?
Also, is there another way to contact them? Whois info is very inaccurate. Seems as if they are at Managed.com NOC
and please, dont just say... YOU AND UR CUSTOMERS ARE SCREWED. I appreciate it

Try backing up your home directory and uploading it on the new server.

Darkage,
So sorry to hear that. It seems the company is not bothered about supporting and serving its customers.
1) Check on the net whether the company is part of any association. If yes, try contacting the association. When a third party does the talk, it is somehow much easier because Host4me knows it will eventually damage their business credibility if this problem persists.
2) Search "@host4me.net" or ("@host4me.net" email) to see if there is any email address of the staff indexed on the net
3) Contact the person you first know at Host4me before you have your account signed up with them last time. That would be the best contact option.
Hope this helps.

Wow...sorry to hear about your trouble. Sounds like you've made a wise step by moving away from them.
If H4M has cPanel and if your box at Nocster has WHM/cPanel installed, you can log in as root and scroll to the "Transfers" section and then "Transfer Account from Another Server with Account Password" (you'd need to know the passwords but you could also reset them in your old reseller WHM if needed). You would then enter the H4M server IP, and the account name/password. WHM should package up the account and do the transfer for you. A bit tedious for 100 clients, but certainly faster than downloading each individual account and re-uploading.
Also, as far as contacting them, you could try using the "Contact Member" form in the feedback profile on eBay.
Good luck!

That's a reason to say, run run run

There are quite a few warning signs with that one honestly, the largest would be what Ryan pointed out above. I'm very sorry to hear of your sour experience, however, I'd recommend that you get up and out as soon as possible. I fell to a very similar situation with a particular dubious host known as web-xperts about 2 years ago now, and so I can sympathize quite well with your plight. My only advice is to not go with something like that again, and get as quickly away as you can.

I posted warnings about this earlier. I too was ripped off, and lost $50.00 to these criminals. eBay suspended their ebay accounts (2 of them) for fraud. If they're again selling on eBay, eBay needs to be alerted. Your $50.00 gets you nothing, it's no different than if they robbed you on the street.
I'm fairly particular host4me.net is simply a high school kid running a scam. You can see the earlier warning thread at : 256929

They scammed me too. I notified PayPal.
My advice is to notify PayPal and include the transaction ID that you sent money.
Here is the email I wrote to them (I used "Report Abuse" option in Help)
This is my dispute transaction ID: 3RX61139A44374016 - the owner of this site is a scam.
This person has stole literally thousands of dollars from people using your services. eBay has cancelled both of his accounts and there are numerous complaints on the web from the people he has stolen money from.
I think PayPal has an obligation to remove his account and notify the appropriate authorities.
His account was VERIFIED when I sent the money. Which means he has credit card information and correct address information ON FILE WITH PAYPAL!!!! This is very important because they have the information to send him to jail.

Just because someone provides bad service doesn't mean it's fraud. It could just be idiots who don't know what their doing, and shouldn't be in business.
If the Paypal account turns out to be bogus then call it fraud but if not they just don't know what their doing.
It's sad and sorry to say but just about anyone can advertise on eBay for just about anything. The eBay commercials on television are proof enough for that.
Hopefully you have a good backup but even if you do, everyone here knows how long it takes to load-up 100 sites and email.
