Reseller recommendations?
Posted by movielad, 03-23-2004, 05:12 AM |
Hi,
Can anybody recommend a good and stable host that would allow me to host several domains via a Reseller account that would enable me to run Perl scripts from the public_html directory (I have one particularly client that has their Perl scripts in the same directory as their HTML stuff) as well as a dedicated CGI-BIN and also offer SSH access?
Preferably Ensim Pro-based, but cPanel would be just fine. Not looking for large amounts of disk space or bandwidth - somewhere in the region of around 500Mb disk and 10-15Gb bandwidth per month.
Location isn't too important either, as long as the datacentre has generally good connectivity and response times in emergencies.
Regards,
Martyn

Doubt if any cpanel host is going to allow you to run cgi scripts from the public_html folder. httpme wouldn't I am almost 100% sure they are running suexec.
I am not sure that too many ensim host will either.
That is a pretty unsecure set up since that folder has to be open to the public to serve web pages, it would be a hackers play ground.
However it can be done if you use cgi wrap.

You guys are making recomendations, do you know that they will allow cgi scripts to run outside the cgi-bin folder? If not then the recomendation is no good to the thread starter.

Based on your requirements, I would recommend Radical Vision at radicalv.com.

I seem to remember that when I had an account with UH, they wouldn't do it. However, I've got a lousy memory
That said, we've gone for Netrillium despite no SSH access.
Thanks to all that recommended hosts.

Martyn
