My Kernel took a dump yesterday and I have unmanaged service and tried to repair the box myself. Needless to say, things have not gone well and i'm looking for an linux expert to fix my server. Please contact me with your price. Payment would be via paypal.

Or if anyone can tell me what I can do, that would help. I editted grub.conf and commented out some of the kernel options. When I rebooted I was told by fdc that the kernel paniced and reboot failed I have been given access to livecd but am not sure how I can access this /etc/grub.conf file from livecd. Does anyone know how?

Do the server have a console access to access remotely?

The error is that it simply won't boot. I'm not sure what the exact error message was. I was ask fdc to send it to me. It was a livecd.

I will check on the console access. I normally have it, but it seems to be down unless I am missing something.

You need to mount another disk, boot with a rescue/live cd, backup your data and reinstall the OS.

Does anyone have instrutions on how to do this, I have never used Livecd before. Can I backup directly onto the box somewhere?

Well, you cannot backup unless you bring it back online. However, you can ask your DC to get a new server for you and attach the current drive to it as a secondary one and you can then copy your data from it.

You should ask for them to do an OS reload and EXPLICITLY SPECIFY that you want to DISCONNECT and PRESERVE the existing drive and that you want to slave it after the OS reload is complete. Datacenter will generally give you the drive for 24 hours or so. (they will get a new drive for the OS reload and move your existing drive to the 2nd slot) You can then mount the old drive and copy over all the data you can. Once you are done, they will shutdown the box again to remove the old drive - this leaves you with a new drive.
