remote desktop set up on vps

To grow experience levels and because someone requested it, I've been trying to install remote desktop using vnc on a centos VPS. Everything goes fine but when you login to the server, all you see is console instead of a desktop. I've been trying to figure out where I've been going wrong but so far no luck. I even checked out the tutorial in the VPS tutorial board and everything seems in order.
Here is my xstartup file:
I've tried both KDE and Gnome for this. I can connect just fine, it just shows up as plain old console. I also have RD set up on my home server that uses fedora, I've been using it for years and it was an easy set up. Just don't know where I'm going wrong here. Any help would be appreciated.

I just fixed it, I basically redid everything, it was my third time. Even tried it on different ports and then after the third set up, it worked on my original port.
I've been working on it since yesterday too, and I figure it out less than 30 minutes after posting here for help.
P.S. using gnome instead of KDE this time.

Is it still working? Don't trust it too much.
I did that many times but after sometime, /dev is wiped out and you can or you can't repair it.

Yup, still working fine. I've been using this on my home server for years without a problem. Not sure why your /dev would be wiped out.
