You're probably running a kernel off the CentOS plus repository: http://mirror.centos.org/centos/5/centosplus/i386/RPMS/

Thanks for reply Servax. Is this good kernel? what is difference between this one and kernel without plus? Thanks, s-f-r-j

I don't see any issue with having that kernel.. Here is what CentOS says about the repository for CentOS Plus: http://wiki.centos.org/AdditionalRes...ies/CentOSPlus The kernel version you're running was released by RHEL on 09/29 which was marked as "moderate" and fixes some security holes + bugs with the kernel: http://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2009-1455.html The latest version given by CentOS (normal repositories) is kernel-2.6.18-128.1.1.

That kernel will be fine for you. No issues Plus includes some additional features. Nothing to be worried about.

It is okay to stay with 2.6.18-164.2.1.el5.plus as the recent security flaw "NULL pointer dereference " is fixed on this kernel, but it is always good to compile and boot to the latest available kernel current stable one is 2.6.31.3

That version is what yum update gave me. Should i stay with this, or ask for help how to upgrade to latest kernel version? What is good website to read about kernel version\fixes\bugs etc? Thank you, s-f-r-j
