The cheapest SPAM filter solution
Posted by willowdale, 10-10-2009, 03:29 PM |
Im looking for a cheap solution to filter SPAM on a small network for a nonprofit organization.
Theyre running Exchange 2003 on Windows Small Business Server 2003 with about 20 XP clients and Outlook 2007.
The current built in filter rules in Exchange do not catch the majority of SPMAs.
Theyre getting on average 50 to 100 SPAM per day. Not all users are getting spammed so Im not sure if a desktop solutions is suitable for that environment.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Filter directly on the server so nothing needs to be installed on the clients. Go with http://www.spamhaus.org/zen/ It works great and is free for your organization.

No problem, we have a few local clients running it.
Its very easy to setup, configure and administrate.

The cheapest will be put a linux box in front of the Exchange for running Spamassassin. That is free and is quite effective. Or maybe run a Declude server in front of the Exchange is also something you can explore. Declude works out of the box with minimal configuration needed.

1.
My suggestion would be to.. Get another server install centos on it.
The server doesn't have to be of extreme specification. An older pc would work fine.
Installing postfix and spam assassin.
Configuring postfix to act as a mail relay and a spam filter.
With some research, this can be accomplished in a couple hours for a novice.
