mii-diag or ethtool will show port speed configurations.

root@server1 [/]# mii-tool -v
eth0: negotiated 100baseTx-FD, link ok
product info: vendor 00:00:00, model 0 rev 0
basic mode: autonegotiation enabled
basic status: autonegotiation complete, link ok
capabilities: 100baseTx-FD 100baseTx-HD 10baseT-FD 10baseT-HD
advertising: 100baseTx-FD 100baseTx-HD 10baseT-FD 10baseT-HD
link partner: 100baseTx-FD
Do I have to ask my datacenter to make it 1000 for me?

Eh... Unless you ordered a 1 gig connection then no. Most likely you have a 100Mbps connection which is correct.

If you have the uplink something needs changing.
The data centre will most likely have put the port speed on auto negotiation if you got a 1Gbps link, or my experience in the past is they do.
You need to email them and ask their switch port config.
If they have set the port speed you need them to increase to 1Gbps and make sure your side is auto negotiation.
If they have not set, either get them to set or just change your side to the required speed and duplex.
Warning changing in the wrong order can and will cause the server to go off-line and stay that way.

Agreed. Contact the DC before making any changes server-side. It is recommended to allow them to make the change server-side when they change the switch. Unless you have KVM/iLO, etc.

Mii-tool sucks and doesn't detect port speed over 100Mbit on some NICs. Ethtool was created to be mii-tool's replacement, and it is a better tool to be using than mii-tool.

Have DC hardcode promised port to 1Gb.
