opinion on my new site

Posted by progman, 04-17-2002, 10:54 PM
I'm very new to all of this, and I put together a site to do very basic reselling, only one package actually. I am looking for comments as to the professionalism and anything else related to the site. I don't do much web design, and I hope that isn't glaringly obvious, but let me know if it is. Basically, I'm looking for any opinions at all. Don't feel any need to spare my feelings, but you probably know that already. I'm in the process of getting set up so it isn't located at my actual domain yet...however, i have the design here: http://oak.cats.ohiou.edu/~as221300/fweb let me know any thoughts at all. oh, and the order now link doesn't work yet as i am not yet set up with a CC processor. Thank you very much for your help!

Um, Well, Um, Well............ I suggest you consider one of the many fine Templates 4-Sale that can be found on WHT. I know that sometimes "simple" can be best, but you might have overdone it. On a side note, I couldn't have done any better myself. That is why I posted a request on WHT when I needed a design - http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showth...threadid=43428 Good Luck with your new venture!

I just have to say this, as it really tickles my nose. Don't use JPG for anything other than pictures, like scanned images.. Im sorry but thats just JPG abuse! Not to mention, it makes th graphics look fuzzy and not right. My work here is done.

Hi Progman there are a couple of things you can do to improve the site a bit. But if this is your first try good job just need to change a few things. 1) 2 pictures in the front I think that if you make them small you can use that space as advertising space for your own company like put there the plan that you are selling, links, why customers should take a look at your company etc..etc..... 2) Menu on top I think it should be a bit smaller so that it will bring the text up so that clients won't have to scroll on your main page. 3) Also on the top menu you should have a link to your main page, support links, about your company what you have to offer, etc..etc.. 4) In stead of using JPG try saving it in gif since it has a better compression rate and it will make the picture smaller and look nice. 5) Contact you forgot to put a support e-mail address or a form it looks better that way since clients won't have to bother to send an e-mail they can just go there and type their problem and send it off to you. Also a helpdesk will be nice something like perldesk.com 6) I hope this helps you again this are just my thoughts

thanks for the advice. i notice the site looks quite a bit worse at 1024x768 and below (which is what most people use) so i'll have to keep that in mind when doing the redesign (i designed at 1280x1078 or whatever that resolution around there is)

Hi there........ Your site will need a bit of work if you want to have a professional presence........Here are some things to bear in mind when you do your redesign(hopefully they will help you out) 1) Make a plan of your site, and what you want to communicate to the user.......Currently your site just has a bunch of text, and when I get to the home page, it tells me nothing about what you sell.....You have to hit the potential customer with your message straight away....... 2) Give yourself some type of branding......Again if you are serious about the business, then develop some type of logo etc than can give your business an image........ 3) This point may be the most important :::::: Try to get a site that evokes some type of emotion in the user.......Too many sites now are just going for usability, and they all look exactlly the same.......(get across an emotional message and that is a powerful sales tool) 4) Usability -> I wont go into any detail here......... 5) site optimisation ::::::: Here is where you can think about image optimization etc.......And dont forget about typography......Remeber, for the web, use web fonts (and make sure you use CSS)........ Anyway, best of luck.........
