Get more leads
Posted by Ericd, 05-10-2001, 05:43 PM |
Hi,
what's the best way of getting more leads?
so far, i have submitted the site to SE (not yet listed though) and added it to hosting directories.
I am in the process of translating it in french and promoting it local since where i live people speak french.
Also, what work best, Google AdWorks, CPC Search Engine or CPM in an hosting directory?
Thanks,
Eric

I am not a web host myself, but in my experience, the Google AdWords program is a good bet. I would be very careful about which keywords and phrases you choose for your ad. The number of searches done on Google each day for 'web host' or 'web hosting' is immense and you are paying by impression. Thus if I am doing a search on 'web hosting' and I choose to look at four pages of results, that is four impressions. However, the fact that there is no minimum deposit for the self-serve adwords option means that it is worth trying out.
I would recommend using www.wordtracker.com or a similar tool to find phrases that are as relevant to your business, but more highly targetted and use these for the search phrases. You will be paying between $8 and $15 CPM, so the more targetted, the better.
If you are on a tight budget, this is a better bet than using a PPC engine like Goto- as the diversity of searchers is much greater and you won't be paying $2-$3 per click for highly competitive terms. This having been said, some of the smaller PPCs (www.espotting.com in the UK is a good bet) may be worth a small investment. Espotting provides results to UKPlus and AskJeeves(UK),NTL and several smaller UK and European engines, so if this a market you wish to target, you should get a pretty reasonable response.
I have a couple of other suggestions re: search engines if you are interested. Let me know and I will email you.

HostAB.... you are in Canada, right?
We are in Canada (Halifax, N.S.), and have had good results from the Google AdWords program. But don't just use "hosting" as a keyword... be very specific, which will draw your campaign out longer, and give you much better results.
Good luck!
Rob.
