RocketRaid / FakeRaid ?

| Hi there
I'm very newbie with RAID arrays,
just bought 2 servers with same specs from FDC, called RAID1 HW with RocketRAID Controllers
but i doubt thats real HW RAID since performances sux on one of servers
here is FDISK/IOSTAT/LSPCI/PROC commands outputs for both servers
first server which seems to be OK, no any lag/iowait even at peak:
You see just /dev/sda devices there
second server which lags on very little traffic, seems wrong/fake RAID to me:
but here its mapped, i guess thats FAKE/SOFTWARE RAID
Any helpfull comment would be appreciated

| Not sure if software raid would explain it. Usually software raid tends to be faster than hardware raid.
Have you approached FDC about it?

| Really? i thought HW RAID has better performances, at least it prices more
i've read here that RocketRaid controllers are fakeraid! thats why it sux

| yeap, hardware raid is expensive, at least proper one.
Software raid tends to be faster than hardware but the trade off is that your cpu is doing all the work the controller should do.
In my opinion hardware raid is more reliable (some have battery backup for when you loose power), and they offload your cpu(s) from all the processing needed by your raid array.

It's quite interesting (if you like that sort of thing!).
My preference is hardware RAID 1 with a hot-spare. Nice and simple. Ish.

but would u please tell me which these servers are real RAID? they differ in fdisk and hard drive devices
2nd one has dm-x but 1st
which one is correct RAID1? and whats another one?

| Looks like second ones in raid he and doing lvm too ? Don't know why fdc have done that though
