| I have a vps running centos5 WHM/cpanel
I recently uploaded files from one vps to another untared them and moved them around where i need them. One of those files was a domain. I went into cpanel and created a domain and made an appropriate folder. I then ssh in and mv the folders into the domain name. Well everything appears to be fine and great. But i cannot change files(permissions,names) from cpanel or ftp. I can ssh in and change them but that isnt going to work if im creating things with ftp. I checked all the permissions. Nothing unusual.
So i restarted whm just in case and now have permission issues accross that whole account. Nothing works in cpanel or ftp only ssh.
Errors from ftp
Rename/move failure: No such file or directory (553)
Errors from cpanel
fileop failure
Any suggestions on fixing this. I dont want to have to delete and recreate the whole count if possible

| We cannot suggest an exact fix with these detail. Do you have issue with files inside any users home directory.If so have you changed the files permission to "user.user"

| Are you able to list the files/folders using ftp?

| yes i am able to see all the files in ftp and cpanel. Changing permissions or moving, editing, or deleting doesnt work.

| Have you ensured the files have proper ownership as recommended by a previous poster?

how do i correct this a simple ssh command of chmod doesnt fix this.

| I found a tutorial on the subject I just cant figure out how to change the permissions. I tried chmod 777 but no avail It wont let me change permissions from cpanel or ftp. I changed the via ssh but it isnt helping.

| You should be doing this as the root user via SSH.

| i did try from root. I went into ssh via root I then found the users directory and chmoded it to 755 but no luck then i chmoded the entire folder and subfolders 777 still nothing working. I have root access but it doesnt seem to keep the change.

| but did you ever change the ownership? Ownership is typically the issue in these situations, not permissions.

so how do i fix the ownerships. i see there are some major problems. I just am lost, im a newb. I dont know why cpanelroundcube is owner of most of my domains. what coomands do i need to change the entire /home/user folder back to the right owners. I searched for it but cannot find the correct commands to use. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

| Use the following command from SSH as root.
chown -R ksk.ksk /home/ksk/public_html/

| thanks david I was actually looking for chown and chgrp but you made it alot easier. Thank you everything seems to be running smoothly now.

| Good. If you encounter any issue with the FP extension for this domain, re-install it from the WHM.
