Question about transferring domains with nameservers

Posted by VetteMan, 12-30-2007, 09:21 AM I currently have a domain at Network Solutions and I am going to transfer that domain to Godaddy. I also have 2 nameservers that I am running associated with that domain (ns1.mydomain.com & ns2.mydomain.com) that are also registered with Network Solutions. My question is what happens to those nameservers when the transfer takes place? Will Network Solutions remove them from their database at that time? My concern is when the transfer happens there will be no nameservers registered at Godaddy and my sites will be down. Anyone know how that works?
Posted by supportmatrix, 12-30-2007, 11:56 AM If you wish to retain the nameservers with network solutions, then you can just update the IP address of the nameservers to point to two new IPs of Godaddy. If you wish to cancel the nameservers with Network solution, then first you will have to register two nameservers in Godaddy and then transfer the domain to godaddy. Anyways there will be some delay in propagation of the updated nameservers and domain.
Posted by Domainitor, 12-30-2007, 02:02 PM Nameservers are child objects in the registry and they can not be deleted if they're in use. When a domain is transferred from one registrar to another the nameservers go with the domain (because they're subordinate). So your nameservers will be fine and will continue to work. What? Nameservers can only be created by a domain's current registrar. There is no way to create a nameserver for a different registrar's domain.
