Mail server up and running but inaccessible

Hello, I can't check my mails using POP3 and Outlook Express. If I do a 'telnet hostname_address 110', I get the MTA welcome message, however when I try to access with Outlook Express, it takes like 30 secs, then it says it's taking time and asks if I want to wait more or cancel, I click "Wait", then after a few secs it says the waiting time expired. Do you know what may be causing it? Thanks.

Do u have a firewall or rbl lists implemented in your server ?. I have seen similar issues in both cases

A firewall issue is possible, but the RBL's only affects SMTP not POP3. To the original poster, what happens if you try to connect from your local computer to the server? Try running telnet yourserver 110 and see if it connects. If it doesn't connect, then chances are your firewall rules needs to be double checked.

Also -- It might be that the login is stuck, after telnetting into it and getting the welcome message: USER yourusername After that, you should get an "OK" message, then type PASS yourpassword If it pauses or does not respond, might be the same problem Outlook Express is having so try to look at the problem from the server end, however, if it goes through or doesn't login.. The problem lies in Outlook Express, make sure to disable Windows Firewall and check it again.

Hello, thanks. There is none of these. No antivirus, no firewall on the PC; no RBL list on the server either. I can telnet properly. Any other idea?
