Hi Guys, I was wondering if anyone have experience with remote MySQL server setup I have 2 servers in the same datacenter, 1 serve as web server, and 1 serve as mysql server. would my remote MySQL server slows down my site load if it's not connected through cross cable? it's on the same datacenter though Any advise would be greatly appreciated Thanks

Depends on how good the network is. If you are connecting via a public ip, keep in mind that the inter server traffic will count against you.

I have no problems accessing a few DB's from east coast too the west, there low profile sites. Any decent datacenter should have a good LAN... Or you would hope so... I know a few people that do your setup without any problems. Make sure you firewall the port so you don't get any odd connections too your database server.

It oughta be fine. If a datacenter can't get its act together with internal connectivity, you wouldn't want to trust them with their external connectivity would you?

We have done this for a phpBB forum (average 100 users online), we have a some 10 GB of extra extra data transfer between two servers. We moved the forum to another server as current server is overloded (that host a phpbb forum and gallery, with shared user table.) We don't used that setup more than few days because of the data transfer between the servers.
